PREAMBLE

Intellectual property plays a significant role in providing a competitive edge to an organization. The intangible assets of an organization - such as expertise, inventions, designed products are more treasured than its physical assets. So, the Intellectual Property Rights Policy Document of Adhiyamaan College of Engineering (Autonomous) (hereinafter referred to as the Institute) seeks to provide guidance to faculties, Research scholars, students on the practices and the rules of the Institute concerning intellectual property rights (IPR) and responsibilities which include the nature of intellectual property (IP), its ownership, technology transfer, exploitation and confidentiality requirements. The policy laid down in this document is likely to fulfill the commitment of the Institute to promote academic choice provides an encouraging environment for research and development.

PURPOSE

Institute has articulated this Policy for the management of intellectual property right to:

  • Provide a research environment leading to the development of intellectual property;
  • enable, encourage and safeguard scientific investigation and research involved in R&D;
  • establish an IPR management policy and procedural guidelines;
  • frame standards for do’s and don’ts for the Institute;
  • facilitate incentives to the creators of the community under this Policy;
  • qualify the Institute to get sponsored through various research funding schemes;
  • develop the Institute as a prime academic research institution with the benefits of Intellectual Property;
  • make the inventor aware of the applicable laws and rules

OBJECTIVES

The objectives of the Policy are as follows, namely:

  • to promote academic research freedom and safeguard in the creation of intellectual property at the Institute;
  • to provide a complete single reference system for all the issues relating to intellectual property caused at the Institute;
  • to Encourage the commercialization of IPR; to help in IP management practices within the Institute to develop IPR culture; to provide legal support to safeguard the intellectual property rights got by the Institute against any infringement/un-authorized use
